The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana commonly known as Ayushman Bharat Yojana is a flagship health insurance plan by the Government of India which focuses on economically disadvantaged populations and provides financial security and risk protection to beneficiaries and families. Major Features
1. Cover Amount: In case of PM-JAY, secondary and tertiary treatment provided by hospitals during its yearly course is completely free, which is covered upto Rs. 5 lacs for every family.
2. Target Beneficiaries: The scheme mostly includes the poor and families determined to be vulnerable identified with the Socio-Economic Caste Census or the SECC. In essence, it now reaches close to 12 crore families translating to approximately 55 crores.
3. Cashless Treatment: Empanelled public and private hospitals across the country now mean that the beneficiary’s household will not incur such additional financial burden when exposed to medical emergencies.
Current Recent Expansions
Along with that, all existing facilities of ₹5 lakh in health cover were also provided irrespective of the economic condition of the family. It is expected that this step will benefit 6 crore senior citizens, and access to healthcare for them will also be improved further.

Wide Network of Hospitals: This scheme provides the advantage to get treated in a network of over 25,000 empaneled hospitals.
Comprehensive Coverage: Treatment for various surgeries, critical care, and day care procedures are covered under the scheme.
No Premium Payment: No premium payment is required on the part of the beneficiary family.
Enhanced Health Facilities: The scheme also promises to improve health infrastructure which would bring quality health care within easy reach.
More Initiatives
Under the Ayushman Bharat initiative, provisions exist for establishing Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (Health and Wellness Centres) to deliver all-round primary healthcare services further strengthening the healthcare framework in India.
